This 46 year-old gentleman had severe upper eyelid hooding to the extent that his upper peripheral vision was compromised. After visual field testing confirmed this problem, he scheduled a consultation with Dr. Chang to learn more about eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) in the Baltimore area. This patient appreciated how much time Dr. Chang put into his consultation, answering his questions and explaining the different options. He was also happy to know that insurance companies often will cover upper-eyelid surgery in situations like this, where the excess tissues impede vision.
Eyelid surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty, is a relatively simple procedure that can take years off the appearance of the face. It has the advantage of removing excess fat, skin, or muscle from the upper or lower eyelids. Like this man, many patients choose eyelid surgery for functional reasons in order to lift drooping upper-eyelid tissue out of their field of vision. This procedure is also popular as a cosmetic treatment, and many of Dr. Chang’s patients will incorporate upper eyelid surgery with other facial procedures such as a facelift, brow lift, or BOTOX® Cosmetic to rejuvenate the face more fully.
This patient experienced a typical recovery associated with an upper blepharoplasty and is shown three months after his procedure near Baltimore. The blepharoplasty itself requires minimal recovery time and incision lines are hidden in the natural creases of the upper eyelids, producing little, if any, scarring. He is very happy not only with the aesthetic results of his facial rejuvenation, but also with his newfound ability to see more clearly.
