Benefits of Breast Augmentation
Although breast augmentation continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures each year, there’s no single, universal reason why so many women from throughout Baltimore County choose breast augmentation surgery. There are a variety of very good reasons to visit our office for this procedure, including:
- Restoring fullness following pregnancy, nursing or weight loss
- Increasing size or improving shape for a more figure-flattering silhouette
- Balancing uneven breast size
Every woman is unique, and every woman’s reasons for wanting breast implants are personal. Our plastic surgeons strive to address each woman as an individual, and to provide each with a tailored solution to meet her needs and goals. And while the reasons for breast augmentation vary from one woman to the next, at Columbia Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the results are the same – beautiful, natural looking breasts.
Your Breast Augmentation
At Columbia Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, you will find a warm, relaxing, refined environment, along with a team of plastic surgeons who will treat you both as a person and as a patient. At your consultation, you will have all the time you need to have all of your questions regarding breast augmentation answered, as well as any concerns addressed. After learning about you and your goals, your surgeon will describe in plain language the 1 to 2 hour outpatient procedure, including potential risks and complications, and will discuss your options:
- Breast implants (saline or silicone gel)
- Size and shape
- Incisions (around the areola, under the breast or in the armpit)
- Placement (behind breast tissue or below the chest muscle)
Finally, after a careful assessment, your surgeon will offer expert advice, tailored of course to your goals and your body type. A breast lift may often be performed with breast implants – many women may want to consider this combined procedure if they are also experiencing ptosis (sagging). Some women also choose to have a tummy tuck to achieve a slimmer abdomen as well as fuller breasts.
What Is the Recovery Time?
You will return home after your breast augmentation surgery with your chest wrapped in a surgical bra. Pain or discomfort usually subsides after the first few days and can be controlled with prescription pain medication. It is important to get up and walk around several times each day to promote healing.
Within a few days you will return to our office for a post-op checkup; we will remove your dressing and instruct you to wear a surgical bra for a few weeks. Your surgeon will answer any questions you have and address your concerns.
Patient experiences vary after breast augmentation. Swelling typically peaks within the first 5 days and subsides significantly over the first 4 to 6 weeks. It will take about 3 months for your breasts to reach their final shape and size once skin and tissues relax and swelling disappears.
Patients usually feel ready to return to work or school within a week or 2 and strenuous jobs and activity after about a month, but this depends on individual factors.

What Is the Cost of Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation costs vary based on several factors, including the type of breast implants chosen and the techniques used during the procedure. Cost is a factor for virtually all patients who choose elective plastic surgery, but we recommend not using price as the most important consideration for choosing a surgeon. We offer attractive financing options for qualified patients.
